History
=1948=
AIESEC started as an organization to develop friendly relations between member countries. It has now grown into a global association with activities in 89 different countries and territories.
=1949=
AIESEC’s clear identity as an international organization to further student exchange abroad was defined at the Stockholm Congress. The Congress pushed the 89 student participants in 1949 to expand.
=1960=
There were 2467 exchange participants around the world.
=1961=
In Germany, seminars are introduced to both welcome and enrich exchange participant experiences. These seminar topics, successfully proposed and passed, addressed issues in a non-political way for the first time.
=1970=
There are 4232 exchange participants.
=1974=
The International Congress in Bordeaux elected for all Exchange traineeships to be at least six weeks in length in order to improve the quality of AIESEC exchanges.
=1974 to 1997=
AIESEC continued to focus at the local, national, and international level on addressing global themes besides the traditional Exchange Program with themes like: international trade, management education, sustainable development, entrepreneurship and corporate responsibility.
=1997=
An information system, Insight was adopted. AIESEC continues to promote exchange between countries.
=2001=
Insight II was adopted to make the exchange process more efficient.
=2012=
Today, AIESEC is the international platform for young people to discover and develop their potential. Our innovative approach helps young individuals to take proactive roles, develop self-awareness, build networks, and develop capacity to drive change. We do this through an international platform of opportunities that provides over 5,000 leadership opportunities, 3,500 work abroad opportunities, 350 conferences, and virtual tools to build networks.
